The State of Maryland is among 37 other states, Washington, D. C. and Puerto Rico that have state-level Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) development programs involving certification for participation in state and government procurement.
Additional certifications in the state of Maryland are the Local, and County based certifications. Some have their own application process while others use a uniform certification application.
In addition to state and local level diversity programs, there are 4 federal programs that also provide direct procurement assistance to minority owned businesses. U. S. Small Business Administration’s 8a, Small Disadvantaged Business, women owned business and the Department of Transportation Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) program.
